pic of TulahTulah's Ready For a Foster

Saturday, January 9, 2010

Tulah is very special. She's so shy but loves gentle attention. She's been spoiled since she came to us from a TNR site. When surveying the area for feral cats, she made her appearance in the most sweet and caring way. Not feral at all, we realized that she needed immediate care and was readily removed with ease. In fact, into the carrier she went and off to see Dr. Rushing at Blue Ridge Animal Hospital.
Back then (this was in the end of fall), she was very thin and hungry. Now, she's a little fatty. Our next mission is to cosmetically correct her left eye. Much like our recent adoptee, Sandy - her one eye is non-functioning and may be removed. Tulah has also been the "surrogate" mom for the Fincham kittens (Joey, Elliot, Stuart & Thomas). She and they both adore each other. You should see them together!
Her foster, Debbie Fincham has taken TOP NOTCH care of this young kitty and if it weren’t for her, Tulah would be another statistic. Now that Tulah is safe and in much better health, we would like to move her to a new foster home, preferably one without dogs (they tend to make her nervous) or one with other cats, where she can be the center of attention.
Trust us when we say that this one is extraordinary in personality. She radiates love and affection – and is eager to receive the same. Please help us find a new foster home for her or provide a permanent home. She won’t disappoint you. Come and meet her anytime!

First Official Announcement of 2010

Friday, January 8, 2010

We would like to take the time to announce that as of Jan. 1st, we are now 100% volunteer-operated. For several years, we have had the blessing of utilizing one paid employee, our office administrator. Our last paid administrator was Mrs. Sonia Butler. Before that, Ms. Dotty Gallegos. Each of these women have performed in an outstanding manner and taken thousands of phone calls and email messages, managed volunteers, helped to organize events and kept the office running smoothly. Each of them has contributed to the growth and continued success of this, an almost 10 year old organization.

Although the business and programs of the HSC are to remain the same, things will now be more streamlined than ever. We have much to share with the community, our members and supporters. We are becoming more ingrained in the community and want to ensure that the HSC will be around for years and years to come. We encourage new volunteers to attend our monthly meetings (starting in March) to learn about the best opportunities to serve.

Be sure you keep in touch, check our website and Facebook pages often – and know that we take all efforts seriously. Together and NOW, we will work to bring about the positive changes to our neighborhoods, area shelters and community leaders that are desperately needed – all to help the dogs and cats who need us most.

On one last note, be sure to join us for the upcoming Valentines Dinner Dance. Read more about it here. And remember, we may not always say it or say it often enough, but we are VERY appreciative that you came to us and that you support us.
Stay tuned!
