Who We Are
The Humane Society of Culpeper
The Humane Society of Culpeper County is a non-profit organization, all-volunteer, foster-based organization in the town of Culpeper providing assistance to the community and their cats or dogs.
The Society has assisted residents of Culpeper County, as well as surrounding counties with with the following programs/services:
- Foster & Adoption Program
- TNR or Trap-Neuter-Return Program for Feral/Stray Cats Living Outdoors (On-Site Consultations Required)
- Community Spay/Neuter Program (Includes Monthly Transports)
- Pet Food Pantry/Distribution Program
- Rabies Vouchers/Annual Drive Through Clinics
- Disaster Preparedness Workshops
We also value our relationships with other area rescues, such as:
- Reesie's Project Outreach
- Middleburg Humane Foundation
- FOCAS (Friends of the Culpeper Animal Shelter)
- People for Pets Foundation
We are also working with the County Shelter on a routine basis, to ensure that residents have access to affordable spay or neuter options and rabies vouchers offered by local vets. The County Shelter also refers residents to our organization, for those needing assistance with TNR services.
We are completely funded by your donations, corporate grants and local fundraising activities. Your support is also encouraged by volunteering for community events, food drives, spay/neuter activities and the occasional office work - or by fostering or adopting the animals we rescue.
The HSC is also a member of the Board of Supervisor's Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, which meets monthly and is open to the public. You may inquire on their calendar by calling County Administration at 540-727-3427.
Mission
Our core mission is to promote the spaying and neutering dogs and cats, in order to prevent unwanted animals and end pet overpopulation. We do this through affordable spay and neuter programs, fostering, adoption and community involvement.
We are not a shelter. All adoptable pets are in private homes and fostered by both local families and individuals.
Please note we do not accept surrendered pets or handle lost and found animals at this time.
You should report neglectful or cruelty concerns to the Culpeper County Animal Shelter (540-547-4477) and one of their Animal Control Officers will respond to your complaint.
