September 5, 2011

Both dogs are brothers and siblings of our Sally. They're just over a year old, neutered, wormed and up-to-date on vaccines. Been in foster care since January (after being removed from a farm, where they were considered feral) and have come along in their own way, though each seem to have different needs. Whether adopted together or separately, these brothers will require a lot of patience, structure, training and socialization.
Their wonderful foster mom has done a great job in bringing them this far, but it's now their time to move onto their new lives. They are also fully house-trained and get along with other dogs. (Cats and young children are likely not appropriate). Herding dog experience is a plus. Come meet them at an adoption event or by appointment. We handle adoptions in VA/DC/MD only.

Rabies Clinic Sucessful

April 2011

The rabies clinic did well - almost 200 vaccines administered in just two short hours.
Thanks to Blue Ridge Animal Hospital and Safeway Management. We'd also like to acknowledge the following volunteers who kept our event running smoothly: Cher & Coby Pennington, Mona Sweatt, Amy & Lindsey Hudson, Karen Flynn, Jim Monroe, Kay Kirkland, Sue Kirkland and BRAH's Anne Beamer.
Our vets: Drs. Beamer & Byrd. Don't forget that if you need assistance with rabies vaccines in particular, call us to request a $20 voucher to a local, participating vet.

TNR Update

February 2011

We'd like to thank PEOPLE FOR PETS FOUNDATION and their contribution to the TNR or Trap-Neuter-Return program. They graciously shared proceeds from their fall fundraiser last year. We also would like to acknowledge Charles & Kathleen Snyder of Culpeper, who have been contributing for over a year to this vital effort. To add to that list, Vince and Claudia Beasley of Locust Grove also gave generously this past holiday season to help spay/neuter more cats in the area. Funds of this kind were also used to help put together winter shelters for some of our local cat colonies.

Joint Venture a Success

January 16, 2011

On December 15th the HSC, FOCAS (Friends of the Culpeper Animal Shelter), the People for Pets Foundation and the Culpeper County Shelter came together to offer a promotion for residents with female cats.
As a result, almost 50 cats were spayed through this joint effort. We are now working on a similar promotion for the spring.
Although the three organizations differ slightly in our activities, we all work well together and look forward to bringing more support to people with both cats and dogs in 2011. Be sure to get to know more about FOCAS and People for Pets. And stop by the shelter and say, "hello" to the staff and visit the animals there for adoption!
